Visual Escapism: through architecture
This publication reflects the final outcome of the illustration series Sun Drenched. It serves as a review and summary of the research process behind the chosen topic: Visual Escapism Through Architecture. The publication documents the project from start to finish, including references, photography, experimentation, and final illustrations.
The project explores the relationship between colour and architecture, examining how specific colour palettes evoke emotional responses within different environments and structures, and how the perception of a space can shift depending on the colours used. It also considers the human tendency to seek balance and harmony during periods of disruption or mental overload, where escapism becomes a way to momentarily disconnect from internal and external pressures.
By reimagining ordinary architectural forms within dreamlike landscapes and warm, soothing colour palettes, the work aims to create a sense of surreal visual escapism. Familiar buildings are transformed beyond their original purpose and function, becoming spaces that invite reflection, comfort, and emotional release.
